How to improve your credit score

A credit score summarises how reliably you have repaid borrowed money. In India, scores commonly range from 300 to 900, and most lenders look for 750+ for their best rates.

The factors that move it most: paying every EMI and credit card bill on time, keeping credit card utilisation well below the limit (ideally under 30%), not closing your oldest accounts, and not applying for many loans or cards in a short period.

A poor score doesn’t stay poor forever — consistent on-time payments over 6–12 months typically show up as a real improvement. Check your report periodically for errors; incorrect entries are more common than people expect and can be disputed.
